8.2 Peta FLOPS

Seven months ago China claimed the number one position in supercomputing with a 2.6 Peta FLOPS machine.  I thought that might stand for a year, but I was wrong: last week Japan unveiled their new “K Computer” at a massive 8.2 Peta FLOPS.

Seems that we’re now running a couple of years ahead of even Kurzweil’s predictions.

  1. Tim Tyler says:

It seems as though Kurzweil’s “trend line” was made manually.

  2. Dr. Shane, can you find some time to read “The Logical Leap: Induction in Physics” by David Harriman. It answers questions like, “How did Galileo know not to test effects of color of a pendulum on its time period?”.

It talks about very vague philosophical solutions for engaging in induction. I am sure it will help you with your more formal pursuits.
